What is the function of the car rubber hose clamps?
In the hidden crevices of the engine compartment and chassis of a car, the rubber hose clamps are the most easily overlooked "pipeline guardians". This seemingly simple small part is mostly composed of metal banding, fastening bolts or spring plates, and is firmly fitted around the connection points of all rubber hoses such as fuel hoses, cooling water hoses, vacuum hoses, and brake hoses. With uniform locking force, it seals the interface between the soft hose and the metal hard pipe tightly. Even a slight loosening and failure of a few-dollar clamps can lead to chain failures such as coolant leakage and fuel leakage, and even directly threaten the driving safety of the vehicle.
The core function of the car rubber hose clamps is to provide uniform and continuous sealing locking force at the hose interface. Most rubber hoses in cars are used to transport oil and gas, and the working environment is very harsh: the cooling water hose has to withstand the impact of nearly 100°C hot coolant circulation, the fuel hose has to be in contact with corrosive media such as gasoline and diesel for a long time, and the brake hose has to repeatedly expand and contract under frequent high-pressure braking. Without the fixation of the clamps, the hose, under the pressure impact of the internal medium, is likely to slip off from the hard pipe interface, directly causing oil spray leakage. A qualified clamp can form a continuous and uniform grip force at the hose interface, neither causing interface leakage due to insufficient locking force nor damaging the rubber hose's pipe wall due to excessive local pressure, perfectly balancing the dual needs of sealing effect and soft hose protection.
In different scenarios, the clamps also undertake differentiated functional adaptation requirements. The common cooling system water pipes usually use worm gear worm wheel type clamps, which have a simple structure and a large locking range, can adapt to different pipe diameters of water pipes, provide stable sealing effect for the cooling system, and prevent "boiling over" and leakage of water under high-temperature vehicle conditions; the high-pressure fuel pipes will use more precise quick-installation clamps, with higher sealing grades, can resist the long-term corrosion of fuel, and even in the negative pressure environment inside the fuel tank, there will be no risk of fuel leakage; while the brake vacuum assist tubes on the chassis mostly use spring-type clamps, it can automatically compensate the locking force when the rubber hose is subject to long-term heating aging and shrinkage, avoiding interface loosening and air leakage, and ensuring that the braking assistance system always has sufficient vacuum. In addition, the clamps can also prevent mud and dust from invading the interface position, avoid rusting at the connection point of the hard pipe and soft hose, and extend the service life of the entire pipeline system.
The faults of the clamps often hide in the details, and many initial signals are easily overlooked by car owners as ordinary pipeline leakage. The most common fault is the failure of locking force. The ordinary worm gear worm wheel clamp is often in a high-temperature and vibration environment for a long time, and the metal banding will experience stress relaxation, the originally set locking force will gradually weaken, and a small gap will appear between the interface of the soft hose and the hard pipe.
