Product knowledge

Automobile engine - fuel - evaporation - pipeline - I - component function

This component refers to the connecting pipelines in the fuel evaporation emission control system (EVAP), whose core function is to tightly convey fuel vapors, ensuring that the oil and gas are safely transported from the fuel tank to the activated carbon tank and the engine intake manifold, preventing the leakage of hydrocarbons and pollution of the atmosphere.

Core functions:
- Vapor conduction: As a physical channel, it channels the fuel vapors generated in the fuel tank to the activated carbon tank for adsorption and storage, or sends them to the intake manifold when the engine conditions are suitable for combustion.
- Pressure balance: Maintains the pressure equilibrium between the fuel tank and the atmosphere/carbon tank, preventing the fuel tank from deforming due to negative pressure changes or bursting due to positive pressure, ensuring the stability of the fuel supply system.
- Anti-seepage sealing: Uses low-permeability special rubber materials (such as FKM, THV) to block the evaporation of fuel molecules through the pipe wall, meeting the requirements of strict emission regulations.

Key features:
- Resistance to chemical corrosion: Long-term contact with high-concentration gasoline vapors without swelling, aging or cracking.
- Temperature adaptability: The working range typically covers -40°C to 135°C, adapting to the high temperatures of the engine compartment and extreme climate conditions.
- One-way/bidirectional control coordination: Coordinated with carbon tank electromagnetic valves, ventilation valves and other components, it precisely controls the direction and flow of gas to achieve "adsorption-deadhesion" closed-loop management.

If the pipeline shows aging cracks or loose joints, it will trigger the OBD system to report a leakage fault code (such as P0440 series), causing unstable engine idle, difficulty starting after refueling or emission超标.
This fault indicates a leakage or failure of the pipeline or related components in the fuel evaporation emission control (EVAP) system, usually accompanied by the engine fault light turning on and specific OBD fault codes (such as P0442, P0455, etc.).

Core causes and manifestations:
- Physical damage to the pipeline: Rubber hoses connecting the fuel tank, carbon tank and engine crack, deform or fall off due to aging, high temperature embrittlement or external force wear, resulting in fuel vapor leakage.
- Component sealing failure: Aging sealing rings of the fuel tank cover, cracked carbon tank shells or loose sealing of the electromagnetic valve interface, causing abnormal system pressure.
- Typical symptoms: A gasoline smell near the fuel filler, unstable idle, difficulty starting after refueling, or the dashboard showing "emission system failure".

Quick self-check steps:
- Check the fuel tank cover: Confirm if it is tightened with a "click" sound; if the sealing ring is aging and cracked, replace the original factory parts immediately.
- Visual inspection of the pipeline: Along the path from the carbon tank to the engine intake pipe, check if the rubber hose has hardened, cracked, leaked oil stains or loose joints, with a particular focus on the sections near the engine's high-temperature area.
- Listen for abnormal sounds: During engine operation, if there is no periodic vibration sound or continuous leakage sound at the carbon tank electromagnetic valve, it may be due to valve body jamming or wiring faults.

Professional repair suggestions:
- Smoke testing for location: Ordinary visual inspection is difficult to detect tiny leaks; use a dedicated EVAP smoke tester to inject smoke into the system to precisely locate the leak point (such as weld seam cracking, micro-hole leakage).
- Priority for component replacement: Prioritize checking the carbon tank electromagnetic valve (whether it is open or short-circuited) and pressure sensor wiring; if the pipeline is severely aged, it is recommended to replace the entire section rather than patching it locally.
- Clear fault codes: After repair, perform system adaptive learning through the diagnostic instrument and clear the codes; do not directly power off and reset to avoid data loss and potential recurrence of faults.

If the self-check cannot solve the problem, immediately go to an authorized repair point for pressure attenuation testing to avoid long-term leakage leading to excessive fuel mixture or damage to the three-way catalytic converter.
