What is the connection hose assembly for the car brake fluid tank?

The automotive brake fluid tank connection hose assembly refers to the flexible or rigid piping components that connect the brake fluid reservoir (brake fluid tank) to the brake master cylinder (or brake master pump), and is an auxiliary piping component in the hydraulic braking system used to transfer brake fluid. It is not the "brake hose" that directly connects to the wheel brake calipers (the latter is often mistakenly called "brake hose"). This assembly is typically composed of short sections of rubber or plastic hoses + metal/plastic connectors (socket type or threaded type), responsible for transporting brake fluid from the reservoir (used for replenishing and storing brake fluid) to the inlet of the brake master cylinder, ensuring that the master cylinder can promptly absorb the fluid to establish hydraulic pressure when the brake pedal is depressed.
In most modern car hydraulic braking systems, the brake fluid tank is often integrated with the brake master cylinder (collectively referred to as "brake master pump assembly"), at this time the "connection hose" may only be a very short internal tube or without an independent hose; however, in some older or specially configured vehicles (such as certain commercial vehicles, systems with vacuum assist separation design), there may be independent tank-master cylinder connection hoses or rigid pipes.
This assembly does not withstand the high-pressure pulses on the side of the wheel cylinders (the pressure from the master cylinder to the wheel cylinder can reach 6–10 MPa), and the working pressure is relatively low (mainly for gravity refilling and the return oil path of the master cylinder), so it usually uses ordinary rubber or transparent plastic pipes that are resistant to DOT3/DOT4 brake fluid, rather than high-pressure brake hoses with woven reinforcing layers.
If this hose is aged, cracked, or the connector is loose, it can lead to brake fluid leakage, abnormal drop in the reservoir liquid level, and the master cylinder being empty (no resistance when depressing the pedal), and in severe cases, cause brake failure. Regular checks on the sealingity and appearance (such as bulging, hardening, and leakage) are necessary.
Note: This component is different from the "brake hose assembly" (i.e., the high-pressure flexible hose connecting the brake master cylinder to the wheel brake calipers/wheel cylinders), which withstands dynamic displacement and high pressure, and has a more complex structure (multiple layers of rubber + woven reinforcement). If the "brake fluid tank connection hose assembly" in the question actually refers to the flexible pipe between the master cylinder and the wheel cylinder, it should be called "brake hose" (brake hose); but according to the literal meaning and system structure, the tank-master cylinder connection is usually a low-pressure auxiliary pipeline, not a core brake hose. It is recommended to confirm the actual layout by referring to the specific vehicle repair manual.
The function of the automotive brake fluid tank (i.e., the brake master cylinder reservoir) connection hose assembly is to smoothly and sealably transport brake fluid from the reservoir to the brake master cylinder, ensuring that the master cylinder is always filled with brake fluid and has no air resistance, thereby reliably converting the force of the brake pedal into hydraulic pressure.
Refilling and maintaining the liquid level: The brake fluid tank stores reserve brake fluid, and the hose assembly automatically replenishes brake fluid when the liquid level in the master cylinder drops due to wear of the friction pads or thermal expansion during braking, preventing the master cylinder from becoming empty or introducing air.
Connecting the master cylinder and the reservoir: This hose (usually a short section of rubber or plastic tube) physically connects the outlet of the reservoir and the inlet of the brake master cylinder, forming the suction circuit of the braking hydraulic system, different from the "high-pressure brake hose" that transmits braking force to the wheels.
Preventing air blockage and leakage: Ensuring that the brake fluid flows smoothly into the master cylinder under normal pressure or slightly negative pressure, avoiding air entering the system due to loose, aging, or cracked pipes, causing the brakes to become soft, the pedal travel to increase, or even brake failure.
Adapting to vibration and displacement: Although it does not withstand high pressure (only the low suction force during the operation of the master cylinder), it still needs to have certain flexibility to adapt to engine/body vibration or chassis micro-motion, avoiding breakage or leakage at the connection point of the rigid pipe.
Note: This "connection hose assembly" is different from the high-pressure brake hose on the wheel side (connecting the master cylinder/hard pipe to the brake calipers/wheel cylinders, transmitting 6–10 MPa hydraulic pressure). The former is a low-pressure refilling channel, and the latter is a high-pressure execution channel. If confusion occurs, it may lead to incorrect identification of the fault point or selection of the wrong parts. If you find that the hose is aging, cracked, leaking or loose, it should be replaced immediately to ensure the reliability of the initial hydraulic establishment of the braking system.
