The right-side suspension support assembly - powertrain of the car is what?
The suspension assembly is mainly classified into two major types based on structure: independent suspension and non-independent suspension. Common types include McPherson style, double wishbone style, multi-link style, torsion beam style, monocoque style, as well as active suspensions such as air suspension and electromagnetic suspension.
Independent Suspension
The left and right wheels can move independently up and down without interfering with each other, providing better comfort and handling. It is the front suspension of most cars and urban SUVs.
McPherson Style: The simplest structure, the lowest cost, and the smallest space occupation. It is the absolute mainstream for family cars and front suspensions of urban SUVs. The disadvantage is that the lateral support is weak, and the side roll and brake nodding are relatively obvious.
Double Wishbone Style (Double A-arm / Double Link) : Two A-shaped control arms up and down, strong control of the wheel posture, excellent anti-sway and anti-nodding ability. Commonly used in performance cars, sports cars, and high-end SUVs.
Multi-link Style: Using 3 to 5 independent links to control the movement of the wheels, balancing comfort and handling. The rear suspension is used most frequently, and is common in mid-range and high-end cars and urban SUVs.
Non-independent Suspension
The wheels on both sides are connected by a single integral axle or rigid beam, and the movement of one side will be transmitted to the other side. It has strong load-bearing capacity, a simple structure, and is durable. It is mostly used in trucks, pickups, and off-road vehicles with tough conditions.
Torsion Beam Style: Connected by a resilient torsion beam between the left and right wheels. Low cost, space-saving, and easy maintenance. It is a common choice for entry-level family cars and compact cars as rear suspensions, but its shock absorption and comfort are not as good as independent suspension.
Monocoque Style: The wheels on both sides are directly connected, having the strongest load-bearing capacity. Suitable for extreme off-road and heavy-duty conditions. The disadvantage is poor comfort and a higher vehicle center of gravity.
Steel Spring Style: A variant of the monocoque style, using steel springs instead of spring shock absorbers. It has stronger load-bearing capacity and is commonly used in the rear wheels of pickups and trucks.
Active Suspension and Special Types
Air Suspension: Replacing the coil springs with air bags, allowing adjustment of the vehicle height and softness, good shock absorption effect, commonly used in luxury cars, large SUVs, and MPVs, but with high cost and later maintenance costs.
Electromagnetic Suspension (Magnetic Flow Control / CDC): Achieving millisecond-level adjustment by changing the viscosity or damping of the fluid inside the shock absorber, balancing comfort and handling. Commonly used in high-end performance cars, but expensive and unable to adjust the vehicle height.
Torsion Bar Style (Half Independent Suspension): Combining the characteristics of independent and non-independent, compact structure, low cost, commonly used in the rear suspension of small and mid-sized cars, such as Peugeot 206 and Honda Fit.
Additional Note: The suspension form is just the basis, the actual driving experience depends more on the manufacturer's tuning. A well-tuned torsion beam may be more comfortable than a moderately tuned multi-link suspension. It is best to test drive when buying a car.
The core function of the right suspension support assembly (i.e., the right suspension mount) is to support the powertrain, limit movement, and isolate vibrations. It connects the engine to the vehicle body, bearing weight and isolating vibrations.
Three Core Functions
Support Function: The most basic function of the suspension system, ensuring the powertrain is in a reasonable position and having a sufficient service life.
Limitation Function: When the engine starts, stops, accelerates, decelerates, or is affected by road bumps, it limits the maximum displacement of the powertrain to avoid collisions with surrounding components.
Isolation Function: As the connection between the chassis and the engine, it prevents engine vibrations from being transmitted to the vehicle body and buffers the impact of uneven ground on the powertrain.
Special Features of the Right Suspension Mount
The right suspension mount is usually a compression-type rubber suspension, fixed to the vehicle body, and together with the left suspension mount, it bears the weight of the powertrain and disperses the engine's center of gravity to both sides of the vehicle, improving balance and handling.
The powertrain is generally fixed to the vehicle body or subframe through left, right, and rear three-point suspensions. The right suspension mount is a key part of this.
Distinguishing Components
The suspension mount is different from the suspension assembly. The suspension connects the wheels to the vehicle body and is responsible for buffering road impacts, transmitting forces and torques; the mounts are specifically used for fixing the powertrain and for vibration isolation.
