What is the lighting system for the car's luggage compartment?
The lighting in the car luggage compartment, also known as the trunk light, is the small lights inside the trunk, mainly used to illuminate the luggage compartment when there is insufficient light, making it easier to pick up or place items. Usually, it turns on automatically when you open the trunk and turns off automatically when you close it.
Common types: One type is an LED light integrated inside the trunk lid, with low energy consumption, high brightness, and long lifespan; the other type is a reflective light installed on the edge of the trunk lid, with more uniform light.
Smart functions: Some models have an automatic sensing function, such as the trunk light turning on automatically when the owner approaches with the key, or turning off automatically after 15 minutes of opening the trunk, to prevent power consumption.
Problems with the original car lights: Many cars come with low-brightness original lighting, making it difficult to see when looking for things at night. Therefore, many people will add or modify them themselves.
Modifying solutions: You can buy a non-wiring magnetic induction light and stick it on the side of the trunk lid. Pressing your hand or opening the trunk will turn it on, and it will automatically turn off after 10 seconds of closing. It can be charged via Type-C, and it can be used for two to three months when fully charged.
If the lighting in the car luggage compartment doesn't work, the most common reasons are a burnt-out bulb, a blown fuse, a faulty switch, or a faulty circuit. You can troubleshoot from the simplest to the most complex, and most minor issues can be resolved.
Troubleshooting steps:
1. Check the bulb: Open the trunk and carefully pry out the bulb socket on the left side near the tail light with a screwdriver. Remove the bulb and check it. If the filament is broken or the glass is blackened, it is already damaged. Replace it with a bulb of the same model. Do not touch the bulb glass directly with your hands.
2. Check the fuse: If the bulb is fine, check if the fuse is blown. The fuse box is usually on the left side of the driver's seat or in the engine compartment. Locate the fuse marked "LUGGAGE" or "RM" in the manual and replace it with a fuse of the same specification.
3. Test the induction switch: The trunk light is controlled by the induction switch at the door lock area. You can press it manually to see if the light turns on; if it turns on, it may be an offset position, or if it doesn't turn on, it may be dirty or damaged contacts. Clean the contacts with an alcohol cotton swab.
4. Finally, check the circuit: If all the above are normal, it may be a loose, broken, or corroded circuit. Check the wiring harness connecting the bulb socket to the vehicle body, check if the plug is loose or damaged, and reinsert or repair it.
It should be noted
If both the trunk light and the interior reading light are not working, it is likely that the fuse has burned out; if only the trunk light is not working, the possibility of a fault with the bulb or the socket is greater.
If the fuse melts again after replacement, it may be a short circuit in the circuit. Don't stubbornly continue to use it; instead, seek professional technicians immediately.
Some vehicle models have more concealed faults, such as damage to the trunk lock block causing the system to fail to recognize the door opening signal, or problems with the on-board power grid control unit. These require data stream reading with a diagnostic tool to confirm.
If the vehicle is within the warranty period, handling it directly at a 4S store is more convenient.
When conducting your own troubleshooting, simple items like bulbs, fuses, and switches can be handled yourself. However, for issues involving wiring or control units, it is recommended to leave them to professional personnel to avoid improper operation causing other problems.
