The function of the car child lock cover
The cover of the car child lock is used to protect the child lock switch, preventing accidental touching or children moving it by themselves, ensuring the lock state is stable and effective.
The main function of the child lock itself is to make the rear door only accessible from outside when locked, and the interior handle becomes ineffective. This prevents children from opening the door accidentally while sitting in the rear seat, avoiding danger during driving.
After the child lock is activated, if adults want to get out from the rear seat, they must pull the door from the outside; remember to confirm that both rear doors are set as needed after parking. It cannot replace adult supervision.
How to find and operate
Location: Generally, it is on the inner edge of the rear left and right doors, near the door lock catch, near the switch, there will be a child icon.
Paddle type: Push straight along the arrow direction to the bottom, it is locked; push back in the opposite direction to unlock.
Rotary type: Need to insert the car key or flat-head screwdriver into the small hole and rotate in the direction of the arrow, common in some models such as Citroën.
If the rear door cannot be opened inside but can be opened normally from outside, it is usually that the child lock has been mistakenly activated. Just reset the switch.
If the car door still cannot be opened after unlocking the child lock, the most common reason is that the paddle of the child lock has not been fully reset, or the central lock is still in the locked state. Don't worry, follow these steps to check:
Confirm that the child lock is fully reset: Open the rear door, find the small paddle or knob with the child icon on the edge of the door side. For paddle type, push it in the opposite direction to the bottom, for rotary type, insert the key or flat-head screwdriver into the lock hole and rotate to the clear unlock position. Only pushing to the middle position may still be in the locked state.
Check the central lock: Use the remote key or the unlock button on the driver's door panel to confirm that the entire vehicle is unlocked. Some models have zone control, and maybe only the driver's door is unlocked while the rear ones are still locked. Try pressing the unlock button again or confirm the rear lock is closed through the central screen door lock settings.
Try the mechanical key: If the remote key is dead or malfunctioning, insert the hidden mechanical key into the driver's door lock hole and rotate to unlock the entire vehicle.
Handle stuck switches: If the paddle is stuck or cannot be moved, gently tap the switch or use a plastic ruler and other slender tools to carefully move it.
If all of the above have been tried but the door still cannot be opened, it may be that the mechanical structure of the door lock is faulty (such as the inner handle lever falling off, the lock block damaged), do not forcefully pull the inner handle, it is recommended to contact a 4S store or professional repair personnel for maintenance.
Here it should be specially noted: The child lock is an independent mechanical device, in the locked state, only the door can be opened from the outside, using the remote key or the central lock cannot unlock it. So if you are in the car and the door cannot be opened from the inside, you need to first find a way to open it from the outside, then manually reset the child lock.
The child lock cover is broken, don't worry, this is generally not a major problem and is not difficult to repair.
The child lock cover is mainly to protect the lock core and prevent accidental touching. It does not affect the operation of the lock itself. If it is just a damaged cover, the function is basically unaffected; if the entire lock mechanism is broken, it needs targeted handling.
Handle by situation
Only the cover is broken: If the lock can still be used normally, you can temporarily fix it with tape or a temporary fix to ensure the lock function is not affected.
If you have limited manual skills, do not forcefully remove it, the interior panel fasteners are prone to breakage.
