The car front hood opening handle assembly is the set of handles and transmission mechanism you pull in the driver's cabin to unlock the front hood (engine hood). It consists of the following parts:
Opening handle: Located on the left side of the driver's seat, below the dashboard (at the bottom edge, near the knees or below the A-pillar), usually with an "Engine Hood Open" icon. Pulling it will drive the pull wire and you will hear a "click" sound, indicating that the first lock has been released.
Pull wire (soft cable rope): Also known as the "Engine Compartment Release Rope", it connects the handle and the engine hood lock. Inside is a steel core, and the outer layer is a plastic sleeve. It transmits force by pulling.
Base and fixer: The fixed structure of the handle base, fixed to the vehicle body sheet metal with bolts, and then covered by the interior guard plate.
Front hood lock mechanism: The end of the pull wire connects to the front hood lock, which is installed on the front water tank frame. After unlocking, the engine hood will spring up a small gap, and then you can move the second safety latch at the front of the vehicle to fully open it.
The opening method may vary slightly for different models. Some are handle-type, some are pull wire-type, and some new models require pulling twice to unlock. Usually, after unlocking inside the vehicle, you need to push the middle "Safety Lock" at the front of the vehicle to fully open the hood.
The front hood opening handle assembly is the handle or puller you use to "open the front engine hood" in the driver's cabin. Safety redundancy: The dual locking structure is the mainstream design, which can effectively prevent the danger of the engine hood suddenly lifting due to accidental touch of the handle during high-speed driving.
Structural composition: The component usually includes a switch handle, a bracket, and a torsion spring structure. When pulled, the handle rotates around the axis, driving the pull wire to move and unlock the lock; when released, the torsion spring allows the handle and the pull wire to automatically return to their original position.
Material and durability: The handle body is mostly made of high-strength materials (such as ABS + metal embedding), but after long-term use, the pull wire may become stuck, break, or the plastic latch may age, resulting in "no reaction" when pulled. At this time, it is necessary to replace the pull wire or the entire handle assembly.
Some tips for daily operation: Before opening the hood, make sure the vehicle is off and the handbrake is tight; if you feel abnormal resistance or no unlocking sound when pulling the handle, do not forcefully pull, it may be that the pull wire is stuck or broken, and you need to check and repair.
The hood cannot be opened, don't rush to pry it with brute force. The handling sequence is: first, distinguish which type of fault it is (handle loose, no resistance); then, follow the corresponding method to unlock it urgently; if it cannot be solved, send it for repair. Most situations can be resolved by yourself, but if the pull wire is completely broken or the lock body is damaged, forcefully prying may easily damage the engine hood and the lock.
First, determine the fault type
The handle is loose and there is no resistance: It is likely that the pull cord has fallen off or broken, and the opening command has not reached the lock.
The handle is heavy and cannot be pulled: It is mostly likely that the locking mechanism is stuck, or the pull wire is stuck.
There is a "click" sound when pulling the handle but the engine hood does not spring up: The first lock has been released, but the second lock at the front of the vehicle (safety hook) has not disengaged, or the lock body is stuck. Handle adjustment
Loose handle (pull cord might be broken):
First, repeatedly and quickly pull the interior handle 2-3 times. Sometimes it can be restored to its proper position.
If not, an emergency unlock is needed: For models with locks on both sides, remove the front wheel inner liner plate and reach in to turn the emergency switch below the lock body; for models with locks in the middle, remove the engine lower guard plate and operate.
The handle is heavy (mechanism is stuck):
Have an assistant pull the interior handle while gently pressing the front end of the hood. Use the pressure to assist in unlocking.
Insert a long-handle screwdriver or thin wire into the gap at the front of the car and gently turn the unlock lever of the lock body.
The first lock is opened but the hood has not popped up (the second lock is stuck):
Go to the front of the car, in the gap above the car logo or in the center of the hood, and upwardly turn the internal lever.
If the gap is too small, gently press down on the hood and release it to use the rebound to expand the gap.
You can spray some silicone-based lubricant at the lock position and wait for a few minutes before trying again; in winter, it might be frozen, so apply a warm water towel to the lock area.
Never use brute force to pry open the hood, as it may damage the lock body or deform the hood, resulting in higher repair costs. Also, be careful not to scratch the paint and plastic parts during emergency operations.
Subsequent processing
After successfully opening it, make sure the support rod is securely in place, and then check the engine compartment.
If you are unable to handle it yourself, or if you find that the pull wire is broken or the lock body is damaged, go directly to a 4S store or a reputable repair shop to replace the engine hood switch pull wire assembly. It is not recommended to forcibly disassemble it yourself.
