What is the rear tail light base component of the car on the right rear?

The rear right tail light base component of a car is, in simple terms, the part of the tail light assembly other than the lens (prism). It is usually called the "light housing" and mainly serves the functions of bearing, fixing, sealing, and protecting. Specifically, it typically consists of the following parts:
Light housing: The main frame of the tail light, usually made of heat-resistant ABS or PP + GF engineering plastics through injection molding, which is impact-resistant, waterproof, dustproof, and can withstand the heat generated by the bulb or LED module during operation.
Light socket/fixed structure: The base for installing the bulb or LED module, often fixed by rotation or a snap-fit mechanism. Some models also come with a fixed bracket and wiring connector.
Sealing component: The sealing ring or sealant between the light housing and the lens, ensuring waterproof and dustproof performance and preventing the tail light from getting waterlogged and fogging.
It should be noted that "base" when referring to maintenance sometimes refers to the light housing itself, and sometimes specifically to the lamp socket for installing the bulb; while the plastic trim below the tail light is called "tail box trim" or "rear bumper trim" and is not part of the base component.
If your right rear tail light has a bulb failure, simply unscrew the light socket to replace the bulb; if the light housing is damaged or the seal fails causing water ingress, you will need to replace the entire base component or the entire tail light assembly.
The function of the rear right tail light base component is to fix the light housing, bear the light source, and ensure waterproof and airtightness, while reliably connecting the tail light to the vehicle body.
Specifically, it performs these key tasks:
Structural fixation: The base (light housing) is the "framework" of the entire tail light assembly. It is firmly installed on the vehicle body through snap-fit or screws. For example, some Japanese car lamp sockets are fixed by three precise plastic snap-fit positions, and improper installation can lead to looseness or even poor contact of the brake light.
Light source and circuit bearing: LED modules or bulbs, wiring connectors are all installed in the base to ensure that each function light such as brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights can be properly illuminated and the signal transmission is stable.
Heat resistance and protection: The base is usually made of heat-resistant materials such as ABS or PP + GF to withstand the heat generated by the bulb or LED module. The light housing itself provides waterproof, dustproof, and impact-resistant protection to prevent water or car washing water from entering and causing a short circuit in the circuit.
Sealing in coordination: The base and the lens are connected through heat plate welding or sealant, ensuring the airtightness of the entire light and preventing fog from entering and affecting the optical effect.
If only the snap-fit of the light socket is damaged or aged, it may not necessarily require replacing the entire tail light assembly; however, when disassembling and assembling, pay attention to the position of the snap-fit to avoid damaging the light housing with force.
During daily use, if you find that the tail light is waterlogged, has poor contact, or is loose, you can first check the snap-fit of the light socket and the sealing condition. If necessary, consider replacing the light socket or the entire assembly.
Faults in the rear right tail light base component are mainly due to damage or poor contact of the light socket itself, and the priority is to determine whether it is a single-sided problem and then decide whether to replace it yourself or send it for repair.
Such faults are most common when only one side of the tail light is not working. The causes are mainly oxidation, loosening, deformation of the pins, or aging of the seal, rather than the bulb or wiring. First, disconnect the vehicle power supply, remove the rear tail light assembly, and check if there are rust spots, blackening, plastic deformation, or loose pins at the connection point between the light socket and the bulb. If the light socket is indeed damaged, directly replace it with the original factory specification light socket component. When installing, make sure the snap-fit is in place and hear the "click" sound to indicate locking. If the light socket appears normal but has poor contact, use electronic contact cleaner to gently wipe the metal contacts and dry them, and check if the sealant is aging and leaking.
Self-check and maintenance steps
Power off and remove the lamp: Turn off the engine and remove the key, open the trunk, remove the interior cover plate or fastening screws at the rear of the tail light assembly, and gently shake out the lamp body.
Check the light socket: Focus on checking if the metal contacts are oxidized, if the pins are loose, and if the plastic parts are deformed; if there is water mist inside the light socket, it indicates that the sealing ring may have failed.
Test for continuity: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage between the two terminals of the lamp holder. If there is no voltage, the problem may lie in the fuse or the vehicle control module rather than the lamp holder itself.
Replace the lamp holder: After confirming the damage, replace it with an original part. Non-original accessories may result in insufficient contact pressure, causing intermittent power loss.
Points to note:
After replacement, be sure to test the brake lights, turn signals, and position lights to ensure they are all functioning properly.
If the lights still don't work after replacing the lamp holder, it may be related to abnormal signals from the vehicle control unit. Use diagnostic equipment to read the fault codes. It is not recommended to continue disassembling by yourself.
In daily use, avoid directly spraying high-pressure water on the rear light area. Regularly use electronic cleaners to maintain the lamp holder interface to extend its service life.
