What is the end cover for the fixed point beneath the seat belt of the car driver?

The end cover for the lower fixation point of the seat belt for the driver's seat is a plastic protective cover that covers the part of the seat belt's waist belt that is fixed to the floor or the seat slide rail. It mainly serves the functions of dust prevention, foreign object prevention, and aesthetics, and does not participate in the safety function. It is located on the floor near the driver's seat, usually at the end where the seat belt webbing is led out from the vehicle structure, and is fixed with screws. An external plastic cover (often black, with snap fasteners or screws) is added.
It is not a lock, a latch, or an ISOFIX interface (such as for child seats), which usually have distinct markings and different structures; this end cover is only a decorative/protective piece, and the fixing screws or anchors can be seen after it is removed.
If the end cover falls off, it does not affect the normal use of the seat belt, but it is recommended to reinstall it promptly to prevent foreign objects from entering, rusting of the screws, or abnormal sounds; if the fixing anchor screws are loose, maintenance is required.
Note: Do not confuse with the "seat belt latch" (a card-like mechanism inserted in the B-pillar or central console to secure the belt) - that is another set of mechanisms. The end cover specifically refers to the shielding cover for the lower fixation points (L1/L2 points), which conforms to the layout requirements of seat belt anchors in standards such as GB/T 11559.
The protective function: It covers and protects the fixing anchor screws, the installation structure, and the seat belt webbing guide piece, preventing dust, foreign objects from entering or corrosion, and prolonging the service life.
The positioning and guidance: It assists the seat belt tongue (hook) to insert accurately and smoothly into the base, ensuring the reliable engagement of the locking mechanism.
The beauty and safety: It covers the edges of the metal installation piece to avoid scratches; some designs integrate safety belt unfastened reminder sensing contacts (not the end cover itself sensing, but the end cover often contains triggering structures).
Non-bearing component: The end cover itself does not bear the collision load; the true lower fixation point strength is guaranteed by the internal metal anchor points and the vehicle body structure (in accordance with standards such as GB14167).
Note: If "the end cover" refers to the outer cover of the seat belt latch base (often mistakenly called "latch"), its function is as described above; if it refers to the metal/plastic adjustment buckle or limiter at the end of the seat belt (located on the seat side or the floor), it is used to adjust the length of the belt or prevent slippage, and it is not the main load-bearing component. The metal fixation anchor embedded in the seat frame or the vehicle floor bears the collision load, rather than the external covered end cover.
"Fault of the lower fixation point end cover of the seat belt" is usually not an independent fault, but occurs when the end cover is loose, falls off, or is damaged, causing the fixing screws to be exposed, abnormal sounds, or triggering the seat belt pre-tensioner alarm; if only the end cover is damaged (without affecting the screws or wiring), the end cover can be replaced; if the screws are loose or the wiring/plugs are damaged, the fixation point needs to be repaired and the fault code read.
The end cover itself is mostly a plastic shield, not participating in the safety function. If it only cracks or falls off, it does not affect safety but needs to be replaced in time (to prevent foreign objects from entering or scratching), and the model year and vehicle make can be provided to the 4S store or accessory dealer to obtain a dedicated end cover.
Be sure to first check if the fixing screws are tightened (torque according to the manual value, usually about 30–40 N·m), and confirm that the seat belt retractor or pre-tensioner wiring plug is not loosened or pulled due to the end cover falling off - this is a common cause of triggering the "seat belt fault light" on the dashboard.
If the "seat belt pre-tensioner fault light" is on, do not disassemble the pre-tensioner (including explosive components) (use an OBD diagnostic tool to read the fault code (such as B1247), determine whether it is triggered by a loose plug, abnormal resistance, or collision history). If the bolts become loose, the brackets deform or the end caps are damaged, resulting in the failure of the seat belt fixation points, the entire lower fixation point assembly (including bolts, brackets, and possibly integrated sensors) must be replaced by a professional repair shop. It is not allowed to simply use adhesive or temporary fixation.
Replacing the end cap does not require special tools. However, before the operation, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid accidental contact with the pre-tightening circuit; during installation, ensure that the wiring harness is not twisted and that the end cap latch is fully engaged.
If only the end cap is missing/fragmented and there is no alarm, the bolts are tightened, and the seat belt pulling lock is functioning normally, you can continue driving for the time being but replace it as soon as possible. If there is a fault light, abnormal noise, or the pre-tightening mechanism is not reset (such as after a collision), you must go to the store for professional maintenance - the seat belt system is related to life and cannot be taken lightly.
