Symptoms of malfunction of the car water temperature sensor plug
When the water temperature sensing plug (water temperature sensor) of a car malfunctions, the main manifestations include abnormal water temperature gauge, difficulty in starting a cold car, sharp increase in fuel consumption, unstable idle speed, and weak acceleration, etc. The following are the specific symptoms and causes:
The water temperature gauge is "out of order" or jumping randomly
A damaged water temperature sensor plug can cause abnormal display of the water temperature gauge on the dashboard. Common situations include:
The pointer is stuck at the lowest or highest position : the pointer does not move after cold starting, or directly points to the high-temperature red line area (the actual water temperature may be normal).
The pointer fluctuates up and down : the water temperature signal is unstable, with the pointer fluctuating sharply between 80℃ and 100℃, which may mistakenly trigger a high-temperature alarm.
It's difficult to start a cold car
When starting cold, the engine needs to be ignited repeatedly to start, and even the key needs to be turned several times.
The sensor plug mistakenly reported a "warm vehicle signal", causing the ECU (on-board computer) to reduce fuel injection and the mixture to be too thin to ignite.
Hot start may also be affected, resulting in a sudden increase in engine speed or black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe.
Sudden increase in fuel consumption
A tank of gas can run about 100 kilometers less than usual.
The sensor plug continuously sends a "low-temperature signal", and the ECU injects excessive fuel in the cold vehicle mode, resulting in incomplete fuel combustion.
The water level sensor inside the container transmits the sensed water level signal to the controller. The computer inside the controller compares the measured water level signal with the set signal to determine the deviation. Then, based on the nature of the deviation, it issues "open" and "close" instructions to the water supply electric valve to ensure that the container reaches the set water level. After the water inlet program is completed, the computer in the temperature control part issues an "open" command to the electric valve supplying the heat medium, and thus the system begins to heat the water in the container. When the set temperature is reached. Just as the controller issues the command to close the valve and cut off the heat source, the system enters the heat preservation state. During the programming process, it was ensured that the electric regulating valve controlling the heat source would not open until the safe water level was reached, thereby avoiding heat loss and the occurrence of accidents.
The automotive water temperature sensor plug (usually referring to the water temperature sensor) is a key component in the engine cooling system. Its core function is to monitor the temperature of the coolant and provide real-time temperature signals to the engine control unit (ECU).
The water temperature sensor plug changes the resistance value of the internal NTC thermistor with temperature changes, thereby converting the physical temperature into an electrical signal (such as a voltage signal). After receiving this signal, the ECU uses it to dynamically adjust the engine operating conditions.
The specific functions include:
Youdaoplaceholder0 Correct fuel injection volume : Increase the fuel injection volume of the ECU at low temperatures to improve cold start performance, and reduce the fuel injection volume when the temperature returns to normal to optimize the air-fuel ratio.
Youdaoplaceholder0 Adjust the ignition advance Angle : Increase the ignition advance Angle at low temperatures to enhance combustion efficiency, and delay it at high temperatures to prevent deflagration.
Youdaoplaceholder0 control idle speed stability : When starting at low temperatures, the ECU increases the speed through the idle speed control valve to accelerate warm-up and maintain smooth operation.
Youdaoplaceholder0 Drive water temperature gauge : provides a signal to make the water temperature gauge on the instrument panel display the engine operating temperature, facilitating the driver's monitoring.
Youdaoplaceholder0 Coordinated emission control : Participate in the regulation of EGR systems, etc., and optimize the proportion of exhaust gas recirculation to reduce emissions.
In addition, the water temperature sensor plug also affects the start and stop of the cooling fan and the operation of the thermostat, ensuring that the engine quickly reaches and maintains the optimal operating temperature (typically 80°C - 90°C), thereby reducing wear, enhancing power performance and economy.
