‌Absorbing and converting energy‌: When the vehicle passes over bumpy road surfaces, the suspension spring absorbs the impact and then undergoes repeated bouncing. The piston inside the shock absorber core moves back and forth in the oil, forcing the oil to pass through the precise throttling pores. The friction between the oil and the inner wall of the pores and the friction between the internal molecules convert the mechanical vibration energy into heat energy and dissipate it, effectively attenuating the vibration.
‌Controlling the vehicle's posture‌: During the compression stroke of the suspension (when the wheels move upward), the shock absorber core provides a small damping force to allow the spring to fully compress to buffer the impact; during the extension stroke (when the wheels rebound downward), its damping force significantly increases, quickly suppressing the spring's rebound, preventing the vehicle from experiencing "nodding", "tilting" or continuous shaking, and ensuring that the tires remain in contact with the ground.

‌It is recommended to replace in pairs‌: Even if only one side of the shock absorber core is damaged, both of the same axis (front axle) should be replaced simultaneously to ensure that the damping force on both sides of the vehicle is consistent, avoiding imbalance in handling, increased tire wear and brake drift. Recommend complete replacement: For the McPherson front suspension (used in most family cars), due to the precise assembly angle of the spring and shock absorber core, it is strongly recommended to replace the original shock absorber assembly (including the spring and cylinder core), rather than just replacing the cylinder core. Replacing the cylinder core alone is prone to causing rapid oil leakage due to installation angle deviation, shortening the lifespan.
Replacement cycle: Generally, it is recommended to check after about 80,000 kilometers of driving. If oil leakage or the above symptoms are found, it should be replaced immediately, without waiting for the fixed mileage.
Note: If the vehicle has a multi-link rear suspension, replacing the shock absorber core alone is relatively feasible; but the front suspension structure is complex. Considering safety and durability, replacing the assembly is a more reliable choice.
