The transmission filter is mainly installed inside the transmission or in the oil circuit system. Its main function is to filter impurities from the transmission oil. During the transmission's operation, metal components rubbing against each other produce iron filings and sediment, and the transmission oil, when used for a long time, will also accumulate oil stains and gums. If these impurities circulate with the oil, they will severely wear down the precision components such as gears and valve bodies. As the usage time increases, the filter will accumulate a large amount of impurities, gradually blocking the pores, and the filtering effect will significantly decrease. At this time, the transmission oil cannot circulate smoothly, the shift components do not receive sufficient oil pressure, resulting in shift hesitation, delay, etc., and the driver can clearly feel the impact when shifting, slow acceleration response, seriously affecting the driving experience. To avoid the hazards caused by filter failure, regular maintenance is crucial. It is generally recommended to replace the filter at the same time as the transmission oil is changed. Automatic transmissions usually need to be replaced every 2 years or after 4 - 60,000 kilometers of driving, while manual transmissions can be extended to every 3 years or 60,000 - 80,000 kilometers. However, the specific cycle should be adjusted according to the vehicle model and usage environment.
During daily driving, pay attention to the vehicle's driving condition. If there are abnormal phenomena such as shift hesitation, abnormal noise, or slow acceleration response, check the filter status promptly. At the same time, regularly check the color, quantity, and smell of the transmission oil. If the oil is turbid, black, or has an odor, it may also be a signal of filter failure.
For filters of different materials, maintenance methods also vary. Most filter paper filters cannot be cleaned and must be replaced; while some models use iron filters, which can be disassembled and cleaned during the transmission oil replacement and reused. No matter which type of filter element you choose, make sure to select the original factory product or high-quality accessories. This will ensure the filtering effect and compatibility, and prevent new malfunctions from being caused by filter element quality issues.
