What are the functions of car pedals

The dynamic pedal, as the name suggests, is a pedal that limits power, that is, the pedal of the foot brake (service brake). The brake pedal is used to slow down and stop the vehicle. It is one of the five major control components for car driving. The usage frequency is extremely high. The driver's control directly affects the safety of car driving.
When a small passenger car is going down a long slope, it is recommended to use a low gear and decelerate with engine braking. Try not to use the brake pedal.
When large or heavy-duty vehicles go down a long slope, it is essential not to press the brakes for a long time. Instead, the engine must be used to slow down. The reason is to prevent brake failure.
A wheel or disc is fixed on the high-speed shaft of the machine, and a corresponding brake shoe, belt or disc is installed on the base. Under the action of external force, a braking torque is generated.
The operation of the car brake pedal is divided into: slow braking (i.e. predictive braking), emergency braking, combined braking and intermittent braking. Under normal circumstances, when braking slowly or in an emergency, the clutch pedal should be fully depressed before the wheels lock up and before the vehicle comes to a stop, so as to prevent the engine from stalling and facilitate the speed change again.
Key points of operation
Brake slowly. Step on the clutch pedal and release the accelerator pedal at the same time. Push the gearshift lever to the low gear position, then release the clutch pedal. Quickly place your right foot on the brake pedal. According to the required vehicle speed and the distance of the parking spot, gradually and forcefully step on the brake pedal until the vehicle stops.
Emergency braking. Emergency braking can be further divided into emergency braking at medium and low speeds and emergency braking at high speeds. Emergency braking at medium and low speeds: Hold the steering wheel tightly with both hands, quickly press the clutch pedal, and almost simultaneously press the brake pedal. Use the method of pressing one foot to stop the vehicle rapidly. Emergency braking at high speed: Due to high vehicle speed, large inertia and poor stability, to enhance braking efficiency and improve the stability of the vehicle, the brake pedal should be depressed before the wheels lock up during operation. Press the clutch pedal again to use the low engine speed to control the vehicle speed. When the wheels lock up, the front wheels lose control of steering and the vehicle is prone to skidding. The key points to master for emergency braking are as follows: after braking and locking up, the steering loses control. When the car's inertia moves very close to the obstacle during braking, you can check the speed to see if the car can stop. If it can stop, try to stop the car as much as possible. If it cannot stop, you need to detour. When detouring, release the brake pedal to allow the steering wheel to play a controlling role. After bypassing the obstacle, press the brake pedal again. When braking in an emergency, the vehicle is prone to skidding. When skidding, the brake pedal should be slightly released to adjust the vehicle body.
Combined braking. When the gearshift lever is in gear and the accelerator pedal is released, the vehicle speed is reduced by the engine speed traction. At the same time, the brake pedal is depressed to brake the wheels. This method of decelerating by the engine traction and the braking of the wheel brakes is called combined braking. Combined braking is frequently used when decelerating during normal driving. The key points to master are: when the vehicle speed is lower than the minimum speed standard within this gear, a lower gear should be shifted in time; otherwise, it will accelerate and damage the transmission system.
Intermittent braking. Intermittent braking is a braking method that involves intermittently stepping on and releasing the brake pedal. When driving in mountainous areas, due to long-term downhill driving, the braking system is prone to high temperatures, resulting in reduced braking performance. To prevent the braking system from overheating, drivers often use intermittent braking methods. In addition, due to the difficulty in controlling the intake volume of the air brake device, rapid intermittent braking can also be used.
When a car is going downhill, some drivers, in order to save fuel, shift into neutral and use inertia to go downhill. Over time, the pressure on the brakes becomes insufficient, and the brakes are prone to failure. Therefore, it is not recommended to shift into neutral when going downhill. Not shifting into neutral means connecting the engine and the transmission. At this point, when the car is going downhill, it is not driven by inertia but by the engine. It's as if the engine is carrying you along, preventing your car from moving fast by itself. This is one of the braking methods.
When small passenger cars go down a long slope, they need to use a low gear and decelerate with engine braking. For large vehicles or heavy-duty vehicles, when going down a long slope, it is essential not to keep pressing the brakes for a long time. Engine deceleration must be used instead. Many large vehicles are equipped with retarders or brake fluid spray devices to prevent brake failure caused by overheating during long slopes.
