What is the assembly of car letter parts?

The term "automobile letter assembly" is somewhat ambiguous and can be understood in two ways, depending on which one you are referring to:
The "assembly" stage in the automotive assembly process (more common)
This refers to the process of assembling the body that has undergone stamping, welding, and painting, along with thousands of other components such as engines, transmissions, chassis, interiors, and wiring harnesses, into a complete vehicle. It is equivalent to the final step of "assembly" in vehicle manufacturing. Currently, the main assembly lines are divided into several sections such as interior, chassis, and exterior. Many factories have already adopted intelligent equipment like robots for screw tightening and automatic gluing.
The letter markings on the vehicle or accessories
Vehicle tail letters: For example, T represents turbocharging, L represents extended wheelbase or naturally aspirated, AT/MT represents automatic/manual transmission, AWD/4WD represents four-wheel drive. Each brand has its own specific meanings.
Vehicle frame number (VIN) letters: The 17th digit code, the first digit represents the production country, the second digit represents the manufacturer, the 10th digit represents the year, and the 11th digit represents the assembly plant code. Letters and numbers have different responsibilities.
Accessory number letters: For example, in Citroën spare parts, "BB" represents the battery, "CA" represents the ignition switch. The prefix of the letters is used to distinguish the attributes of the parts.
The main functions of the letters on vehicles are: one is to identify the vehicle's identity and technology (such as the tail label representing power, configuration, four-wheel drive system, etc.), and the second is to assist in assembly and traceability (such as the letters in the vehicle frame number can be used to find the assembly plant).
Identity and performance identification
The letters on the body, especially those on the rear and hood, are mainly used to tell others what this vehicle is:
Power technology: This is the most common. T represents turbocharging, K represents mechanical supercharging, L represents natural aspiration or extended wheelbase, GT represents high-performance or luxury touring cars.
Drive form: 4WD is four-wheel drive, AWD is full-time four-wheel drive, and terms like Quattro, xDrive are the brand's four-wheel drive system codes.
Configuration grade: For example, GL, VX, TXL, etc., are often used to distinguish low-end, mid-range, high-end, or luxury versions.
Brand series: Such as the SV version of Land Rover, the letter marking on the hood is part of the original factory design, used to distinguish high-performance versions and enhance recognition.
Note: The rules for tail labels of different brands are not exactly the same. For example, Volkswagen uses 230TSI to represent the maximum torque of 230 Newton-meters, while Audi uses 45TFSI to represent the acceleration G value. The larger the number, the stronger the performance usually.
Aging and traceability functions in production and maintenance processes also play a key role:
Vehicle frame number (VIN): The 11th letter represents the assembly plant code of the vehicle, which can directly identify in which factory the vehicle was produced.
Accessory number: For example, the first letter of the accessory number "Q" represents that this is an automotive standard part, facilitating precise matching during procurement and maintenance.
To quickly determine the power or configuration of a vehicle, the most direct method is to look at the tail label; to check the assembly information of the vehicle, look at the vehicle frame number.
Automobile letter assembly faults usually refer to the detachment, loosening, or damage of the letter markings on the rear or front of the vehicle (such as the brand's English name, model name). Generally, it can be repaired by oneself, and the difficulty is not high.
If it is just a normal detachment, the letter is not broken, the core is to clean it thoroughly and reattach it with 3M glue, aligning the position and pressing firmly.
Self-handling steps
Remove the old letters: Use a plastic pry bar to carefully lift from the edge. If it is too firmly attached, heat the glue layer with a hair dryer to soften it before removing, to avoid scratching the paint surface.
Clean the installation area: Use degreasing agent or alcohol to thoroughly wipe off residual glue, dust, and oil stains to ensure a clean and flat surface.
Paste the new letters: Remove the adhesive on the new letters, align them with the original position (you can mark the outline with Scotch tape first), apply pressure evenly for more than 60 seconds, and do not wash the car within 24 hours.
Check the firmness: After pasting, confirm there are no bubbles or curled edges, and the edges are tightly attached.
Special reminder: If you have applied car wraps or color-changing films before, the glue used during the construction is often not sticky. After washing the car, it is easy to fall off. It is recommended to check the adhesive again after removing it and replace it with 3M glue for re-pasting.
Two points to note
Electronic components on the vehicle logo: For some new vehicle models, the front vehicle logos integrate radars or cameras. For such cases, it is recommended to handle them at an authorized store. Removing them yourself is likely to damage the electronic components or affect calibration.
Modification legality: Simply pasting the original letters back does not require registration. However, if you want to replace the original letters with other styles, it may involve modification, and you need to first understand the local regulations. It may also affect the warranty.
