What is the electric reversing device for the left rearview mirror of the car?

The electric steering mechanism of the left rearview mirror refers to the miniature DC motor and its transmission mechanism that drive the up-and-down and left-and-right rotation of the mirror lens. Essentially, it is the angle adjustment execution component of the electric rearview mirror, not a separate component called "steering mechanism". It changes the direction of the motor's current to make it rotate forward and backward, and then drives the mirror lens to deflect through gears or worm gears, achieving the adjustment of the viewing angle.
There is a point of confusion here: In the field of motors, "steering mechanism" usually refers to the mechanical component within the DC motor that switches the direction of the current, while "electric rearview mirror steering mechanism" in the daily automotive repair context is more often used to refer to the entire electric adjustment driving module of the rearview mirror.
Working principle and structure
Core components: Each rearview mirror usually has two miniature DC motors, one for up and down, and one for left and right.
Control process: Press the interior adjustment button → The electrical signal is transmitted to the corresponding motor → The motor converts the rotation into linear or angular changes of the mirror lens through worm gears or gear sets.
Position feedback: Some models have Hall sensors or potentiometers that can provide real-time feedback on the position of the mirror lens, enabling precise control or memory functions.
Common faults and precautions
If there is sluggishness, abnormal noise, or malfunction during adjustment, it is mostly due to wear of the motor, gears, or poor contact of the wiring. Do not forcibly twist the mirror lens; it is easy to damage the transmission mechanism.
Brush motors rely on the contact between the brush and the commutator to supply power and belong to wear-prone parts with limited lifespan. Frequent use may require replacement.
The "electric steering mechanism" of the left rearview mirror refers to the miniature electric motor that drives the change of the angle of the mirror lens. Its function is to allow you to sit in the driver's seat and make the left rearview mirror lens swing up and down and left and right through the interior button, without having to get out and twist it manually. In simple terms, it is the core execution component that implements the electric adjustment function.
The working mode of the electric steering mechanism in the left rearview mirror is as follows:
Working principle
Two small motors for division of labor: Usually, each rearview mirror is equipped with two miniature DC motors. One controls the tilt in the up-down direction, and the other controls the swing in the left-right direction. Combined with transmission structures such as worm gears and worm wheels, the rotation of the motors is converted into the linear movement of the mirror.
Controlling the steering by changing the current direction: When you press the adjustment button, the in-car switch will change the current direction flowing to the motor. Once the current direction changes, the motor rotates either forward or backward, thereby driving the mirror to rotate in the corresponding direction. For example, pressing the "up" key, the motor in the up-down direction of the tube rotates forward, and the mirror lifts upward; pressing the "down" key, the current is reversed, the motor rotates backward, and the mirror rotates downward.
Which side to select is determined by the selection switch: The adjustment panel on the car door usually has a switch with an L/R symbol. When it is set to the L (left) position, and then press the direction key, the motor in the left rearview mirror is controlled; when it is set to the R (right) position, it controls the right one.
Usage reminder
During adjustment, maintain a normal driving posture. Make sure the left rearview mirror can clearly see the left rear side of the vehicle and the adjacent lane. It is not recommended to keep pressing the direction key without releasing it for a long time, as this may overload or damage the motor; if the adjustment fails, you can first check the fuse, and then consider taking it to a repair shop for inspection of the motor.
