What is the access cover for the vehicle's soil tank?

The term "automobile soil tank access cover" should be a miswriting of "carbon tank cover". It refers to the cover on the carbon tank of the car, usually placed over the intake port (exhaust port) of the carbon tank. Its main function is to prevent dust, water, and dirt from entering the interior of the carbon tank.
The carbon tank is a part of the fuel evaporation emission control system, used to absorb the volatile gasoline vapor from the fuel tank to prevent it from directly being discharged into the atmosphere; after the engine starts, these absorbed gasoline vapors will be sent back into the cylinder for combustion, achieving both environmental protection and fuel saving effects. The carbon tank is usually installed near the fuel tank or in the engine compartment, and is a small black container connected by several tubes.
This cover is mainly for dust and water prevention. If it is removed, the carbon tank's operation will be largely unaffected for a short period of time, but over time, dust and sand will enter, which can easily affect the performance of the carbon tank, so it is not recommended to remove it.
If there is a noticeable gasoline smell on the car, it may be due to a clogged, damaged, or leaking pipe of the carbon tank. It is not necessarily related to this cover. It is recommended to check the carbon tank itself and the connecting pipes.
The term "automobile soil tank access cover" is more colloquial and usually refers to the maintenance access or connection cover of the carbon tank. The main function of the carbon tank is to absorb the volatile gasoline vapor from the fuel tank to prevent it from being directly discharged into the atmosphere and to prevent pollution to the environment. At the same time, after the engine starts, these absorbed gasoline vapors will be sent back into the cylinder for combustion, achieving both environmental protection and fuel saving effects.
If "access cover" refers to the ventilation hole on the fuel tank cover, its function is also very crucial:
Balancing the pressure inside and outside the fuel tank: When the fuel in the tank evaporates, without a ventilation hole, the pressure inside the tank will continuously increase; at the same time, as the fuel is consumed, a negative pressure will be generated inside the tank. The ventilation hole allows air to enter and exit, avoiding the tank from being squashed or cracked.
Cooperating with the carbon tank: The fuel vapor enters the carbon tank through the pipe, and the ventilation hole is responsible for allowing fresh air to enter the system to ensure the normal circulation of the entire evaporation control system.
If each time the fuel tank cover is opened during refueling, there is a "hissing" sound, it may indicate abnormal pressure inside the fuel tank, possibly due to a clogged carbon tank. It is recommended to check it promptly.
In simple terms, the function of this "access cover" or ventilation hole is to allow the fuel tank to "breathe", and at the same time, it cooperates with the carbon tank to recycle and utilize the fuel vapor, protecting the fuel tank structure and reducing pollution. When driving, be careful not to forcefully add too much fuel after jumping the gun, to avoid gasoline spilling into the carbon tank and causing the activated carbon to lose its effectiveness.
First, confirm which component you are asking about: the fuel tank cover of a regular family car, or the carbon tank (activated carbon tank) system? Both can make one feel that "something is wrong on the cover side", but the faults and repair methods are completely different.
If it refers to the fuel tank cover that cannot be opened or locked, you can check the following sequence:
Fuel tank cover fault troubleshooting
Check the vehicle unlock status: Some models have the fuel tank cover linked to the lock when the vehicle is locked, first confirm that the entire vehicle has been unlocked.
Listen to the motor sound: If there is no "clicking" sound when the electric fuel tank cover is turned on, it is likely that the motor or switch is broken, and it is necessary to check and replace it at a repair shop.
Mechanical jamming handling: Due to rust or jamming, a small wooden chip can be used to gently pry the gap, or gently tap the cover while pressing the opening button; if the spring fails, a small spring can be added to the rubber pad.
Pulling line problem: Open the trunk lining board, check and re-tighten or repair the pulling line.
Locking mechanism damage: Damaged lock, spring, or deformed cover will cause the lock to fail, usually requiring replacement of the corresponding components.
The rubber sealing ring inside the fuel tank cover is cracked or deformed, which will also affect the sealing and locking, and it needs to be checked and replaced.
If the problem is a noticeable suction sound when opening the fuel tank cover or a gasoline smell inside the car, it is likely a clogged carbon tank, and it is not related to the cover itself:
Carbon tank clogging self-check
Typical symptoms: Gas spurts out or there is an intake sound when the fuel tank cap is opened after parking; there is a distinct smell of gasoline inside the vehicle or around it; the vehicle lacks power when accelerating, has jerky acceleration; the idle speed fluctuates or even stalls; the engine fault light comes on.
Quick judgment: Keep the engine running, poke the fuel filler cap position with your hand. If you can hear the intake sound, it indicates that the carbon canister might be blocked.
Treatment method: For minor blockages, remove it and use an air gun to blow and clean it; for severe blockages or when the activated carbon is ineffective, directly replace the carbon canister.
After refueling, if the vehicle starts with difficulty and the idle speed is unstable, it could also be due to the carbon canister electromagnetic valve not closing tightly. Use the power-off blowing method for inspection. If necessary, replace the electromagnetic valve.
If none of the above methods can solve the problem, it is recommended to go to a repair shop for inspection. Do not forcefully pry open the cover, as it may easily damage the locking mechanism or sealing surface.
